Sew For Kids - Fabric Giveaway!!!

Hi folks!!! For those of you that don't know me, I'm Jennifer, and I like to sew!!! The past few months I have been involved with sewing for projects at  Hopeful Threads . Kristy at Hopeful Threads does a great job at picking different charities or causes that we can sew projects for.

This month, we are sewing for the organization Sew For Kids. This helps new mothers and children of all ages of the Lakota Indians, which live on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations. Sew For Kids help provide clothing, blankets, and other things for children, and they also provide supplies to help promote breastfeeding for new mothers.

Last year after seeing the special on 20/20 with Diane Sawyer Children of the Plains , about the Lakota children,  my heart has gone out to these people.  I was just heart broken. After discovering the Sew For Kids organization just last month, I decided that I wanted to participate in their monthly projects.  After talking with Kristy at Hopeful Threads last month, I found out that her October project was to sew things to donate to Sew For Kids. I was so excited!!! I told Kristy I wanted to do a give away of fabric for this project.  I wanted to make sure that someone could donate for this project without having the worry of what fabric to use.

I am giving away a fabric bundle of 4 different fabrics, 1 yard each!!! IMHO they are great fabrics to use.  Included is a vibrant blue/purple/brown cotton knit, a beautiful pink/purple paisley flannel, a cute green with butterflies flannel, and a soft cozy blue minky. There are so many items that can be sewn from this bundle: Hats, scratch mits, infant nightgowns, receiving blankets, nursing pads, home made wipes, home made burp cloths. You name it!! Here is a pattern link of some free patterns and tutorials that Sew For Kids has provided.

To enter this fabulous give away, please leave a comment this blog post with a contact email and/or "Like" my facebook page, That's Sew You

Thank you and good luck!!!! The lucky winner will be chosen Monday, October 8, at 9am Mountain time.

Sew What?

Hi Folks! I've been selling some items here and there. I've made custom orders for some relatives, and I've also been quite successful at our town farmers market, Midland Market.  I have some new items I've sewn up, so be sure to check out the "Items for Sale" page. Thanks. Remember, I can make your custom orders. Right now my project is working on some dresses for some little girls in the community. Their mother bought all the material and patterns, but has not found time to sew them. So I said I could sew them up for her. It's something I enjoy doing.

In April I sewed and donated a dress to the "Dress A Girl" foundation. This project collects home sewn dresses and donates them to underprivileged girls in other countries, in hopes that every girl could have at least one dress. You can find a link for "Dress A Girl" on my blog.

This month I am donating a few pairs of boys shorts to an organization called "Children in Families" and they will be sent to boys in Cambodia. I found out about both of these projects through my "online" friend Kristy at Hopeful Threads.

Thanks for letting me share. As always, I look forward to your orders, and God bless.

I would like to announce that the clothing I have made up on my "Items for Sale" page is going to be 30% off for this week only,  June 10-June 17.  If you live out of the Midland/Philip area, I would be happy to ship to you for a $5.00 fee. Just take 30% off of the listed price. Most items are $10.00, so they would be $7.00.

Most of the clothing is Toddler sized ages 2-5 appropriate. If you have inquiries about a certain article of clothing, please don't hesitate to ask.

I accept PayPal Payment( which you can access on my home page), Cash, or money order.

Thank you. I hope to be seeing your little ones in my outfits!

Casserole Carrier and Pot Holders

Okay, so here was the project I worked on this week! A Casserole Carrier and Pot Holders for my aunt!

The Casserole Carrier is great for anyone, like my aunt, who attends a lot of potlucks for work, or like here in Midland, we have potlucks every time we turn around. (Okay, not that often, but often enough!)

This was my first time doing both projects. There are a few different styles for a casserole carrier, but I chose this simple slide in and tie style. I must admit, it took me a few attempts to find a good pot holder pattern. I did a lot of cutting, sewing, seam ripping and pulling of my hair b/c I almost ran out of fabric. I managed to salvage enough material though to complete my project.  Like any new project I undertake, it gets easier each time. I hope my aunt likes them, and I look forward in sewing more casserole carriers for people, especially in Midland, where potlucks are a common event!

Thanks, Jenni

Dress A Girl, Hopeful Threads

Thanks to Hopeful Threads, they have something called Dress A Girl, and they get dress donations (mostly pillowcase dresses) to put girls in underprivileged countries in a dress. Their goal for April is 100 dresses. Here is the one I am donating. Check out the link at the bottom of my page for Dress A Girl by Hopeful Threads.

Thanks - JB

Coordinate your order!

These are for an order I just completed!!! Four Tea Towels and one Grocery Sack Holder, which are coordinated for her kitchen!!! This picture is a little fuzzy, but you get the idea!

Most popular items!

So far my most popular order is the Grocery Sack Holder, selling for only $6 - probably  because everyone is sick and tired of their Walmart plastic sacks piling up in the closet or under the sink. Guilty!! The Tea Towel, selling for only $5, is also popular, especially with the mothers of young children, who get tired of the children yanking the towel off the stove handle!!

I am so thankful for your orders. Please keep them coming. God bless you all!!!

binding tutorial :-)

I just watched an awesome tutorial on Youtube for how to attach binding to my mug rugs. I will give this a try and see if I can make a prettier mug rug than what I've already pictured. Learning is a process :-) - JB

Sunday, March 18, 2012

I am working on some sample projects. So far I have the grocery sack holder. I have posted a picture, which is just a basic sample. As with any of my Kitchen Creations, you may specify a color scheme and/or decorations which you'd like (obviously I will try and match the best that I can) .

The next project I am working on is a sample set of 4 mug rugs. I need to get some binding next time I go to the city.

Hopefully things will really get rolling once I get our tax refund so I can get stocked up on some material and notions. For those of you that don't know, I live a half hour from the closest fabric store, so that can make things a little tricky sometimes :-)

If you would like me to make you a Kitchen Creation, just let me know what you'd like and the color scheme.

Prices are project specific. I can ship to you by adding $5.00 to your order. I will accept a money order or cashiers check until I can get a pay pal account set up. Thank you for supporting me in my quest to be creative and start a little business.

Be Blessed! - JB

Pieces and Parts

Well, things are looking hopeful to get started making some samples. My friend Jenna brought me some sewing supplies and some small pieces of material, and my mom said she was going to send me a box of miscellaneous things. I did some sewing today, to brush up on my french seam; furthermore, I'm going to make myself and some friends some simple elastic skirts for the spring/summer. I figure that's an easy way to get back into the habit of sewing again. I'm really excited!!! Thanks for any and all support. - JB

I just need to build up my supplies before I can get sewing!! Stay tuned. -JB
