Smitten by these Pants!

I have the opportunity to share with you a great pattern: Classic Fit Boys Pants by Seamingly Smitten. I purchased the pattern from Fairytale Frocks and Lollipops , and this review is for their site.

I've been actively sewing for the past year now. I've known how to sew since being a little girl, but have only actively pursued this hobby lately. I enjoy sewing dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, shirts, aprons, and many other items.  You can see several examples of what I enjoy sewing for others here on my blog or on my facebook page, That's Sew You by Jennifer

The Classic Fit Pants for Boys is a great pattern for beginning and advanced sewers. The pants only took an hour and a half to cut out and sew (with a few minor distractions from children).  This time also included having my son try on the pants to fit them for the hem. The pattern was very easy to follow as the instructions are very clear.  There were no "special" skills needed to sew this pattern, and I believe a beginning sewer could tackle these pants. This downloadable pdf pattern includes step by step instructions and several pictures to illustrate sewing stages. The pattern pieces are easy to understand and are color coded for different sizes. This is the fifth pattern of Seamingly Smitten I have been able to sew.

I have sewn several pairs of pants for my own two boys, using my own measurements and construction.  The pattern by Seamingly Smitten was very comparable. The sizing is spot on. However my boy is between a size 4 and 5, so I used the size 5 pattern and shortened them to the proper length. I used the specified sewing allowances and hem measurements, and the pants came out beautifully!! I did feel that the waist to inseam area was just a smidge long; however, my son likes to wear his pants at his belly button so that solved that problem. My younger son on the other hand, wears his pants below his belly typically. I feel that I would shorten the waist to inseam length by perhaps 1/2 inch - 1 inch for him, to get rid of some of that bagginess. This is very minor though, and I think it depends on how the child likes to wear pants.

I made the Classic Fit Pants for Boys with a cotton material that had a little stretch to it.  As stated in the pattern directions, these pants would be great sewn in cottons, linens, and corduroy.  These pants are also great for girls. You could add a ruffle or two at the bottom or dress it up with cute girly material.  They are great for everyday pants for going out, or they can be made into pajamas for staying in, with flannel or knit.

I really enjoy sewing patterns by Seamingly Smitten! The patterns are easy and simple to understand! Before starting the pattern, be sure to read through the entirety of the instructions. This helps you become familiar with any new sewing techniques and lets you know how you'll be constructing the garment.

Cooking up a storm for Easter!!!

Hey! It's been awhile since I last posted anything. Not much has been going on. However, I want to let you know about my most popular item this winter! It is the Chef Set, featuring: a double sided apron, with a large bow tie and velcro neck straps; a play only potholder or oven mitt; and a coordinating chef hat. You can see a set in my picture scroll (the purple/lime polka dots).  This particular set had a flower attached to the apron and hat. This set starts at $25.  Shipping is $6 in the USA. If you want just the Apron/Potholder or Mitt, price is $12.50, and the Chef Hat is $12.50 alone as well.

Easter is just around the corner, March 31 this year!!! Admit it, we all like to have new outfits for Easter Sunday! I can sew an array of dress styles for your little girls, starting at just $12! That's a great deal!!! Don't forget about the boys though. I can sew something special for them too!!
